Two Special Gifts for 2025
There are those wonderful times in life where you get to see somebody taking that first step out of their comfort zone. It is something to behold! Just watching that light turn on behind their eyes as if to yell out, “I can do this! There will be challenges for sure, new things to learn but at the end of the day, I don’t want to just wish for growth and change. I am going to commit and do something about it.”
I got the opportunity to witness this, just this week and even more exciting, will get to be a part of the transformation! It was a business owner from Minnesota that took the dive and decided to join our group, Elevate, of ten Dealers. The best part was that I really didn’t think she was going to jump on board, which made her decision even more special! I am sure every one of us has seen somebody break out and do something amazing. We may have even done it ourselves at some point. Going back to school, running a marathon, or starting a Kitchen and Bath Dealership. (that one’s the hardest) Places where a person shut out the noise, gathered up their inner strength and decided to move forward. So, thank you, Janel S. You inspired me to push past the starting line and step up in an area of my own that needs some real energy behind it!
Okay, now that you are in an open mindset, let’s hit the second topic of the blog. Yep. The one you’ve been begging for over and over again. Drum roll please…
Capacity and Utilization. Sounds boring, does amazing! If there is an area that Dealers need to get their head around, it’s how much upside there is on the productivity front. I know I have rambled on about this forever, but I thought it might be interesting just to look at one relationship that is very meaningful to your business and your team. A good question to ask yourself is how well you are utilizing your biggest asset which is your people. Let’s just see how the lack of processes, systems and metrics are affecting your capacity. Yes, your capacity.
If the utilization of your team is at 50%, then you have limited your capacity by that same amount. For example, take seven people with total sales of three million. It will stay that way unless you hire more people or improve their utilization. Take a quick look at how efficient things run now and how SPM (systems, processes, metrics) can improve things. I stayed away from the acronym of processes, metrics, and systems…for good reason

Wow! Now if that doesn’t kick your butt and open your eyes, I don’t know what will. How is this possible? I swear I just want to laugh aloud when I hear Dealers tell me that they are not sure if the investment into KABS is worth it or not. I don’t mean that in a way that is slighting anybody. To me it seems like simple math but that is exactly the way I was trained to think at Reico. It was pretty straight forward.
Measure the important numbers.
Understand what they are telling you.
Figure out how to move them in a positive direction.
The days of just winging it are coming to a close. I am hopeful the fear of not changing has grown to the point that it is overwhelming the fear of changing.
